GUN BUNCH DEFENSE

Gun Bunch, in my opinion, is the toughest defense to guard in the entire game. The max coverage setup will guarantee that you won’t give up any of the most popular routes that people like to throw and force your opponent to check down every time. The blitz setup will provide nearly instant pressure while taking away the routes people most commonly look for when under pressure.

The three most popular plays people run out of Gun Bunch are Verticals, Mesh Spot, and Bunch Trail. Of course, people will run other plays and make their own variations of these plays using hot routes, but these are the most important plays to focus on.

Situational Adjustments

  • Put the DE on the side of the RB in a man assignment on the RB (if your opponent is throwing wheel routes)

  • Put the slot CB and/or vert hook LB in a curl flat (depending on what checkdowns your opponent is throwing)

  • If your opponent is consistently sending out five receiving threats, mix in the five-man blitz

Post-Snap

  • Cover any receiving threats going deep from the bunch side

  • For Verticals, sit in between the two deep wheel routes

  • If there are no receiving threats coming deep from the bunch side, get back with your user because it’s likely Bunch Trail and the iso WR is coming across on a deep post
