Rpo read flat wheel
Base Play
RPO Read Flat Wheel is one of my favorite plays in Madden 22 because it’s viable at all times, against any coverage, at any spot on the field. There’s a lot happening on this play, but I want to just focus on two routes - the TE on the wheel route, and the WR on the post route.
The wheel route is the money route of this play because it gets open against almost any coverage. That being said, it takes some practice reps to truly nail down how to throw this wheel. Sometimes you need to throw an immediate bullet pass to get underneath a defender in a deep zone, other times you need to throw a lob pass so your TE can clear a defender in a hard flat.
The post route is also good anywhere on the field, but it performs best near the goal line. If you’re inside the 5-yard line, you can almost always immediately throw the post because the defenders glitch out while they focus on the potential handoff to the RB.
It’s important that you don’t use this play as a crutch; my recommendation is to save this play for when you absolutely need yards rather than running it every down. Remember, if the routes look covered, you can quickly hold down A (Xbox) or X (Playstation) to handoff to the RB. It won’t get many yards, but it’s better than forcing a throw into coverage.

Setup
This is the only play in this Ebook where we care more about the direction of the play than the hash we’re on. There is a glitch where if you run this play with the TE wheel route going to the right (opposite of the screenshot below), there is a chance he will get immediately tackled by a defender in press coverage, preventing him from running his route. To avoid this risk, I (almost) always run this play with the TE wheel going to the left, regardless of which hash I’m on. However, there is one exception to this rule - near the goal line, where the WR post is the primary read, I always run this play with the post/wheel on the right side since the QB throw animation to the right is slightly faster than to the left.
